Idell Ferguson

Idell Ferguson passed away peacefully March 29, 2012 at home.  She was born October 20, 1920 in Montgomery, Alabama to Frank and Mary Lawson. 

She is preceded in death by son, Ronald E. Lawson.  She is survived by her daughter, Mary Robertson of Akron; and her son Dennis (Carol) Ferguson of MacClenney, Florida; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. 

The family will receive family and friends Monday, April 2, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home 529 W. Thornton St. Akron, OH 44307.  Services will be held on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 989 N. Portage Path, Akron, OH 44313, Rev. Peter E. Virginia L. McKinnie

Virginia Louise McKinnie, 85, passed away March 27, 2012 after a long illness.  She leaves her children, Gladys Blakley of Euclid, OH, Jerry McKinnie and U.L. McKinnie of Akron, OH; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, friends and loved ones. 

Her homegoing services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Terrie Marie Moore-Board

Terrie Marie Moore-Board (Frank), a lifelong resident of Akron and Youngstown, OH, born July 18, 1956 was called home to the Lord March 25, 2012, at age 55. 

She is preceded in death by her father, Claude Robert Moore; brother, Claude Robert Moore Jr; and favorite aunts, Ruby Moore and Berniece Gainer.  Terrie is survived by her mother, Eula Nell Moore; husband, Frank “Lonnie” Board; daughters, DeLisa Moore (special friend, Clifford “Bo” Culver) and DéResha Moore; 3 grandchildren, Quontiqua (Pooh bear) Culver, Damond (fat daddy) Duke Jr. and Terrion (fat-fat) Moore.  Terrie is due to be a great-grandmother from Quontiqua Culver June 13, 2012.  She is also survived by 3 brothers, Robert Moore, Phillip Morrow, and Rodney Moore; 2 sister, Barbara Moore, and Leslie Moorer (Terry); (sister by God & best friend), Cynthia Hooks; 8 nieces and nephews, Robert, La’Rena, Tamesha, Shanequa, Reshedha, Renita, Chantell, Terry, and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 3:30 p.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Rev. Elmo Lusane, Sr.

Elmo Lusane Sr., 80, went home to be with the Lord on Monday March 19, 2012.  Born December 1, 1931 to Arthur and Susie Lusane in Lowndesboro, AL.  He is survived by his wife, Cynthia (Butler) Lusane; sons, Elmo Jr (Gloria), of Detroit, MI, Johnny Sr (Veronica); daughters, Barbara Jean, Patricia (Tony), Rose (Gary), Bertha Lee, all of Akron, OH; 5 brothers and 6 sisters, 21 grand kids, Tracy, Stacy, Greg, Henry, Garnett, and a host of family and friends. 

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church 180 Edward Ave., Akron, OH 44310, Rev. JoAnn McKissac

JoAnn McKissac “Pucker”, 61, of  Barberton, OH passed away on March 26, 2012. 

She was born July 8, 1950 to the late Joseph and Gladys Board in Barberton, OH where she attended Barberton Public Schools.  JoAnn was last employed by W. G. Lockhard.  She was known to many as “Pucker” or “Aunt Pucker”. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William McKissac; sisters, Paulene Williams, Janet Grayson, and Gwendolyn Board; special brother-in-law, Clyde Grayson; sisters-in-law, Robbie McKissac and Tommie Lee. 

She leaves to mourn her passing brothers, Anthony Board and James Board, of Barberton, OH; sisters, Brenda Board, Karen Board, Michelle Board, of Barberton, OH; special godson-nephew, Joseph Board; special granddaughter, Shayla Riley; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.  Gladys was a very loving and caring person and will be missed by all.

Richard Lee Small

Lieutenant and Deacon Richard L. Small was born to Walter and Florida Small on January 15, 1952 in Akron, Ohio.  Richard transitioned from his earthly life peacefully on March 20, 2012 in Goodyear, AZ with loved ones by his side.

Richard was a faithful, dedicated deacon and member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  He was educated in the Akron Public Schools system, and also attended the University of Akron.  Richard retired as a Lieutenant from the Akron Fire Department, after 31 years of service.

He was a self-taught computer expert who shared his knowledge with many people.  He loved life and prided himself in fitness and health.  Richard lived his dream of moving to Arizona, the state he loved, referring to it as, “heaven on earth.”  He basked in the sunshine, warm weather and glorious mountain views. He was truly a good, kind, loving, and Godly man who loved his wife, sons and entire family deeply.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Small Sr.; baby brother, Larry and sister-in-law, Alice Faye Small.

He leaves to cherish his memory, the love of his life, soul mate and wife of 31 years, Elizabeth Small; 4 sons, Roy (Michelle) of Kent, OH, Timothy, of Gaylord, MI, Richard Jr., of Akron, OH, Neil (Priya) Fairborn, OH; Mother, Florida Small, of Akron, OH;  5 brothers, Walter (Shell)  Jr., Union City, TN, Charles Sr., of Akron, Sylvester (Elaine) Port St. Luce, FL, Leonard (Lynn) Cincinnati, OH, Gregory (Joann) Copley; 9 grand-children, Brooklyn, Cheyanne, Asia, Devin, Trae, Braylon, Benjamin, Timothy, and Alyssa; god-children, Brandon and Brenna Moss; sister and brother-in-law, Betty (Carl) Roddy; special nieces and nephews, Theresa (Mark) Harper, Charles (Adriene) Jr.,Walter III, Edward, Christopher (Tywla), Jennifer and Melanie Small; life-long friends/brothers, Leroy (Marie) Moss, Hezekiah (Gloria) Lampley, Mt. James J. Johnson

Deacon James J. Johnson graduated from earth to heaven on March 20, 2012. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Vickie Johnson.  He leaves to cherish his memory, wife of 60 years, Ida Mae; children, James Jr., (Stephanie) of Garland TX, Alfred (Regina) Johnson, Brenda (Donny) Rodger, Raymond (Novella) Johnson and Erwin Johnson all of Akron, OH; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Henry) Dunn of Akron, OH; brother, Samuel (Mary) Johnson of Birmingham, AL; 4 brothers-in-law, 2 sisters-in-law and a host of other relatives and friends.  Celebration services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Mt. J.T. Beecher

God reached out and touched a sweet spirit and called him home.   J.T. Beecher departed this life, bound for his heavenly home on March 18, 2012. 

Born on May 11, 1927 in Russellville, AL to the late Joseph Beecher and Mary Bell Tucker Beecher.  He accepted Christ at an early age and on December 12, 1948 he married the love of his life, Willie D. Beecher.  Of this union, two children were born. 

J.T. was employed at Robinson Clay and retired from General Tire & rubber company in  1986 after thirty three years of service.  J.T. was affectionately known as “doc” to his friends.  He was a hard working soul that loved to garden and spend time harvesting his vegetables.  In the years to come he will be remembered for the dedication and love he had for his family. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Clarence, Dallas, Henry, Travis, Millard; two sisters, Revis Beecher-Hill and Lucille Burnette.  Treasuring his memory is his loving and dedicated wife, Willie D. Beecher; adoring daughters, Janice Miller and Dorthy Dardie, of Akron, OH; grandchildren, Lundun Beecher, Aiesha Motley (Curtis), Pierre Miller, and Keith Dardie, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Amir Campbell, Alicia Beecher, Layla Motley and Lance Motley.  He also leaves behind four brothers, Ellis, Keith (Audrey), of Chicago, IL, Otis (Pearl), Charlie (Annie), all of Akron, OH; and one sister, Lina Mae Sanks, of St. Augustine FL; sisters-in-law, Emma (Willie) Shropshire, Mattie (Walter) McGowan, and Myrtle Person; brother-in-law, Emmett Smith, all of Akron, OH; and other family members and friends.

Irene King

Sandra Bryant

Miss Sandra “Missy” Bryant age 62 went home to glory at Akron General Hospital on Sunday March 18, 2012 surrounded by family and friends. 

Sandra was born on March 4, 1950 to the late Martha (Campbell) and Turner Bryant Sr. and is preceded in death by grandparents, Alice and Marion Campbell.  She gave Summa Health Systems 34 years of service until her homegoing.
