Carrie Elizabeth (Brown) Johnson Hampton “Mama Honey” was born November 15, 1919 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late John Henry and Nora Brown and passed away January 23, 2012. She was educated in Akron Public Schools and employed by Akron Board of Education. Carrie was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she served in the choir. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 23 and her favorite song was “This Little Light of Mine”. She was a member and former president of the Eastern Star. Carrie was a very conscientious person of hospitality and was an excellent cook.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Orice Thomas Johnson and I. V. Hampton; daughter Erma Louise; and son, Walter Leon Johnson.
Orice and Carrie had seven (7) children, eldest daughter, Janice Marie Taylor; sons, Thomas (Claudia) Jr, Dr. Robert L. (Patricia), John Henry, and Elder Louis (Loretta) Johnson; sisters, Daisy Mae Stiggers and Betty Jane Harper; 50 grandchildren, many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Service will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307. Interment Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 272 Noah Ave., Akron, OH 44320.
