Robert Lee Barker was born November 11, 1942 in Yellow Bluff (Cold Bluff), Alabama. Robert received his Christian life experience at an early age at St. Louis Primitive Baptist Church in Yellow Bluff, AL. He became a member of New Trinity Baptist Church in Akron, Ohio. Robert relocated to Akron, Ohio in the early 1960’s. He met and married his beloved sweetheart of 44 years, Essie.
His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and barbequing with family and friends. He retired from General Motors after 38 years of service.
Robert was preceded in death by parents, June and Elnora Baker; brothers, Damon Barker and June Barker; sisters, Sarah (Henry) Irving and Nellie (Hardy) Tate.
He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved and faithful wife, Essie; sons, Richard (Gladys) Johnson of Montgomery, AL., Gerald (Yvonne) Barker and Calvin (DeShannon) Barker; daughter, Sandra Barker; mother-in-law, Josephine Harris of Union Springs, AL; brothers, Archie Barker, J. B. Barker and Arthur (Carolyn) Barker; brother-in-laws, Linton (Essie) Harris of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, James (Sheila) Harris of Crestview, Florida, Clinton (Dorothy) Harris of Crestview, Florida, John Harris of Union Springs, AL, Sidney (Sandra) Harris of Houston, TX and Thomas (Linda) Harris of Manning, S.C.; sister-in-laws, Lena Hardley of Detroit, MI and JoAnn Harris of Union Springs, AL; special granddaughter, Assia Brown; god-daughters, Paris Owens and Sharkeya Maddox; special friends, Theodis (Patricia) Mabry, the fishing and hunting crew, “The Garage Crew” and the GM crew; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
