Sarah M. Varner

Sarah Mae Varner went home with the Lord on October 28, 2011.  She was born on February 24, 1930 in Talladega Springs, Alabama to the late John Henry Spidell and Ollie Mae Gaffney. 

She worked for the Holiday Inn-West for over 30 years, leaving as Head Chef, and retired from the Lil’ Joe’s Pub in 1985.  One of her greatest pleasures was being a member of First Apostolic Faith Church.  She loved cooking and gardening, but nothing gave her as much pleasure as being a homemaker and mother.  Her favorite past-times were watching the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers. 

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry and Ollie Mae Spidell; loving husband of over 60 years, Harold W. Varner Sr.; son, Larry Varner; brothers, Eugene Spidell and Joe Henry Spidell. 

She is survived by five children, Carolyn of Kent, OH., Harold (Trish) of North Carolina, Janet of Copley,OH., Diedree of Kent, OH. and Tymara of Detroit, MI.; brother, Early (Barbara) Spidell; sisters, Janie Spidell of Boca Raton, FL. and Queen Easter James of Detroit, MI.; 20 grandchildren, Tonya, Bahri, Nicole, Ed, Steven, Leon, Monte, Levan, Nadjia, Brandon, Shannon, Byron, Rachael, Harold III, Racquel, Jatcie, Claude III, Olliah, Bradley and special granddaughter, Myona; 38 great grandchildren; special nephew, Greg Spidell; cousin, Lola Wilson; brother-in-laws, Bill (Bunny) Varner, Grady (Eloise) Varner, Virgil Varner; sister-in-laws, Ruth Varner, Elsie Varner, Maggie Varner, Francis Varner; daughter-in-law, Barbara Carr; and special friends, Huey Livingston, Kenny Shue and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. 

Services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at First Apostolic Faith Church, 790 Easter Ave., Akron, OH 44307, Bishop Samuel L. Hampton officiating.  Interment at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery.  Friends may visit the church from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.  Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1563 Penelope Dr., Akron, OH 44320.
