Terrance Lee Portis departed his earthly life on January 25, 2012. Terrance was born on March 8, 1984 to the proud parents of Terry Amos and Cynthia Portis. Terrance was a member of Deliverance Christian Church in Canton, OH.
Terrance graduated from St. Vincent St. Mary High School where he played football for the mighty Fighting Irish; as a result of his excellent skill, Terrance received a scholarship to attend Walsh University.
He graduated from Walsh with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. He was also employed by the university as the director of Academic Support Center. Terrance was pursuing a degree in Education. For the2010-2011academic year, Terrance was awarded the Mentor of the year award.
Terrance was committed to his work at Walsh University, creating the youth program, “One God, One Love.” The purpose of the program is to allow underserved and underrepresented youth the opportunity experience various activity from a faith-based perspective. He was actively involved as an advisor in the SWAT and Black United Student Union.
Terrance co-founded the charitable program entitled, “AYIN.”
Most recently, Terrance became a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
He is preceded in death by grandparents Lonnie Wilkins, Tommy Gordon and Sarah Mae Amos.
Terrance leaves to cherish his memories parents, Terry Amos and Cynthia Portis, both of Akron, OH; sisters, Essence Thomas (Kyle), of Las Vegas, NV., Pie Portis, of Akron, OH; brother, Troy “Bink” Portis (fiancé, Dana); and lifetime partner, Chareasa L. Pitts, all of Akron, OH. grandmother, Maebell Portis, of Akron, OH; uncles, Arthur Gene Amos, of Columbus, Mississippi, and Dennis Amos, of Akron, OH, Lonnie, Ronnie, Donnie, and Dwayne Portis, all of Akron, OH; aunts, Margaret Hardaway and Grace Hill, both of Akron, OH. And a host of other relatives and friends.
Homegoing service will be Friday, February 3, 2012 at 12:00 noon at Deliverance Christian Church, 2130 31st St. N.W., Canton, OH 44709, Pastor Warren P. Chavers officiating. Friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form at 1591 Slusser Rd., Akron, OH 44305 and 1203 Neville St., Akron, OH 44306 and condolences may be sent to 1591 Slusser Rd.
At the family’s request, please take all food to the church Friday.
